Steve Bloch

Steve Bloch the song tuner

After a decade of success with his LA based talent agency, ENTERTAINMENT ASSOCIATES, Steve Bloch segued into publishing and founded SOUTHERN COW MUSIC in 1991, moved his headquarters to Nashville in ’93, and hasn’t looked back. His boutique publishing company quickly garnered cuts with Faith Hill, Lee Ann Womack, Dierks Bentley, Rebecca Lynn Howard and Lee Greenwood in addition to securing cuts with Kenny Chesney, John Berry, and Tracy Byrd, while independently pitching songs for some of Nashville’s best writers!

In the late 90’s, he was hired by Doug Johnson, label head at GIANT RECORDS, to do independent A&R for the label where he generated cuts for Clay Walker and Blake Shelton.

In 2003, he co-founded WRITER ZONE MUSIC, LLC., a uniquely innovative publishing company, where writers who came on board with a high level of past measurable success (#1 songs) shared equity in the company. Writers/Partners included Thom Schuyler (“16th Ave.”/Lacy J. Dalton), Rand Bishop (“My List”/Toby Keith) and Jon Robbin (“I Breathe In I Breathe Out”/Chris Cagle).

Steve later acted as Creative Consultant for DEMOLITION MUSIC PUBLISHING, interfacing with staff as well as staff writers and pitching songs, from its inception in 2013 through the end of 2020.

Currently, Steve is once again assisting Doug Johnson (now creative head at BLACK RIVER ENTERTAINMENT) in finding the best material for BRE artists! He also provides the same service for DOLLY PARTON’s producer, Kent Wells. He also publishes songwriter, Scott Sean White and together, they recently had cuts with Curb artist Dylan Scott, Warner Records artist Cody Johnson, and Black River’s Josiah Siska and MaRynn Taylor.

Steve is a frequent guest of the West Coast Songwriters Assoc., the Durango Songwriters Expo, the AZ Songwriters Assoc., LV Songwriters Assoc., Austin Songwriters Group, and TAXI. He was an NSAI “Pro-on-the Road”, lead two classes online for SongU.com, and hosts the ever popular “Lucky 13” Speed Pitch event here in Nashville.

What Steve is looking for:

“I want a song that keeps me on the edge of my seat from the first verse line to the last! That is the power of a great lyric. I absolutely love finding a hit song or a diamond in the rough from an unknown writer. I always say, you never know where the magic will come from!”
