Pitch to Pro Pipeline

Get your songs recorded

Sound impossible? It’s not! But first you need to get them into the hands of Industry Pros who can actually get them to the recording artists. All of the Song Pluggers, Publishers and Producers associated with the SongTuner have documented success in the music industry and can get your hit songs into the hands of the decision makers on Music Row as well as in the TV and Film industry!

A direct pipeline from you to the music industry professionals

Submitted songs are sent directly to the Pros of your choice! These songs are not played in person and are not “pre-screened” in any way. The mp3 and lyric files you upload are forwarded on to the Music Pro you select along with a feedback sheet for them to complete after listening to your song. On the feedback sheet, the Pro will quickly rate your song’s strengths and weaknesses and will indicate as to whether or not they are interested in pitching your song (and if not, why).

You may submit your song(s) to the Pros for their consideration and they will decide whether or not they believe your song is competitive enough for them to pitch. For each song submitted through the Pitch to Pro Pipeline, you will receive a feedback sheet from the Pro as to the competitiveness of your song. This is not an in-depth evaluation, but rather a simple critique where the Pro will indicate whether or not they wish to pitch your song (and if not, why).

No, songs do not need to be professional full-band demos in order to be considered. Guitar/vocals and piano/vocals work just fine! The important thing is that you submit a demo that clearly delivers your song. The lyrics should be easily understandable with a clear melody. However, if submitting a song to be considered for a sync placement opportunity, demoes need to be mastered quality (sound “radio-ready”) and 100% clearable.

The average response time is between 2-4 weeks, but response times can vary depending on the Music Pro and how busy they are at the time. A Pro may also take longer to respond if they have received a high number of song submissions for the month. However, you will always receive a feedback sheet for every submitted song and we do our best to send them back as quickly as possible! If you have any questions about the status of your submission, feel free to contact me.

You can sign up to be added to the SongTuner’s mailing list. I regularly send out email blasts that provide updates on the different song needs for the song pluggers, publishers and producers on the Pitch to Pro Pipeline. I try to provide details on what the Pros are needing based on the artists they are looking for and/or projects that they are working on at that time.

Yes, if you would prefer to submit your song(s) on a disc, please use this Mail-In Submission Form and send your CD and lyric sheet(s) to:

Erin Kidd

“I’m always drawn into a great title and clever hook! The melody needs to be able to showcase an artist’s vocal and sound commercially fresh. Bonus points for interesting phrasings! Demo doesn’t have to be fancy at all - I can hear through a clear worktape or a solid guitar/piano vocal without any difficulty.”

Debbie Zavitson

“I need hit songs for my publishing company! I am also always on the look-out for writers that submit songs that consistently show they have a ‘fresh and engaging’ writing style. I love hearing songs that are ‘out of the box’ and are not ‘run of the mill’ or generic lyrics and themes. I especially like the unique and unusual hooks and songs with cool, unexpected twists! I’m always looking for current-sounding mid- to up-tempo hits!”

Shar'n Clark

“Up-tempo songs are always in demand, so that’s what I’m always on the hunt for! I love listening to songs that have a strong and definite melodic contrast from verse to chorus. I also enjoy hearing the occasional ballad, but it needs to have some sort of movement and lyrically, it needs to be better than ‘I Hope You Dance’. I’m always listening for strong, positive themes for both male and female artists!”

Nancy Peacock

“Whenever thinking about pitching a song for film or TV shows, avoid painting ‘too detailed’ of a picture or story in your lyric! Typically, most music supervisors are looking for songs with broader sounding lyrics that are able to evoke lots of emotion. Especially since the TV show or film is what’s supposed to be telling the story for the audience! So, they’re usually looking for songs that can easily match the mood behind whatever is happening on screen in a particular scene.”

Jacee Badeaux

“Being at Big Yellow Dog Music, I hear and pitch great songs every day! Whenever I’m listening to outside material, I basically look for a song that says something really unique or I want to hear something melodically that makes it stand out from the rest of the songs that are getting pitched every day.”

Kirby Smith

“I work with one of the best songwriters in town, so I need songs that measure up! I love songs that can surprise me in a good way! I’m always looking for unique hooks and unexpected lines and ideas. I want a song to pay off so that when I hear the hook for the first time, I want to jump up and yell ‘Yes!’ Songs that are undeniable and super commercial!”

Emily Dryburgh

"I am generally looking for a lyrically well-written tempo song! As far as country music, I’m always in need of songs with compelling, unique hooks and fresh, but smart, lyrical perspectives. A song that says something universal in a way that has never been said before! Usually something that has a quick first verse with a great catchy hook and a sing-along chorus! Songs 3 minutes and 30 seconds or under are preferred!”

Jamie Dryburgh

"For pop music, I’m always searching for something with a big, singable, memorable melody and a relatable human perspective lyrically. Something “left-of-center” sonically that hits the ear in a new and exciting way. As far as sync music, I’m looking for something that evokes strong emotion and/or movement. Lyrics that are less descriptive and more “ethereal” are preferred but does not always have to be the case. However, I’m always openminded to anything that just “feels great” without reason, whether it be country or pop! So, if you have something you absolutely love and aren’t sure why, I’d love to hear it!”

Jenny Hall

“Working with an amazing roster of writers, artists and producers, the bar stays pretty high! What I look for in a song, though, is a great melody that sticks with me long after the song is over, as well as amazing craftsmanship in the lyrics. Basically, being able to take a new or common idea and displaying it in a clever but commercial way that relates to listeners!”

Producers & Pros Working Directly with the Artists

Matt Lindsey

“I want songs that obviously have great lyrics and melody! Specifically, songs that have emotion that keep me on the edge of my seat wondering where it will take me next. I like songs that say something! Some examples of up-tempos and mid-tempos I think are really stellar are songs like ‘Calling Baton Rouge’ (Garth Brooks), ‘Most People Are Good’ (Luke Bryan), ‘The House That Built Me’ (Miranda Lambert), ‘Time Marches On’ (Tracy Lawrence) among others. I believe songs like these are simply timeless and will be on the radio for years to come!”

Justin David

“I always enjoy hearing songs with an infectious melody and lyric that makes me want to play the song over and over again!”

Ted Hewitt

“As a producer, I’m dependent on great songs and you can’t always rely on the artists to write them all! The artists I work with are usually good writers, but when they’re out on the road, there’s not a lot of time to write. That’s why I’m always searching for strongly written songs with fresh lyrics and relatable themes. I’m also interested in finding talented, up and coming songwriters and aspiring artists with great work ethics!”

Leigh Reynolds

“I’m passionate about songs and voices. Being true to yourself is always going to be the best way to developing fresh and different sounding lyrics! That is what’s going to make your work stand out. If I come across a song that I strongly believe in, I will gladly champion it.”

Steve Bloch

“I want a song that keeps me on the edge of my seat from the first verse line to the last! That is the power of a great lyric. I absolutely love finding a hit song or a diamond in the rough from an unknown writer. I always say, you never know where the magic will come from!”
